This is an ugly topic. Spyware and virus activity can really cause some pretty nasty problems for your computer. They get on your computer, pretty much undetected, and can wreak havoc on your system performance (and possibly your data, too).

So how do you know that you have a virus? What is spyware? Well, if you have a permanently connected internet line, like DSL or cable internet, you more than likely have gotten ahold of some spyware. Spyware is transmitted from the scripts (code embedded in websites) on a webpage and when they run, they load themselves on your computer. Lots of times, it results in a great deal of pop-ups and really slow speeds on your computer. The best way of preventing a virus from getting on your pc, is to stay completely up-to-date with good antivirus software. This, unfortuanatly, is still not always enough.

I probably have you pretty worried about your computer right now, but don't be...spyware and virus removal is possible and in most cases without losing any data at all.
